Refrain Productions

Frequently asked questions

Refrain Productions brings together five interactive shows, performed by professional musicians. Here are the questions organisers ask us most often before confirming a date: the running order, the technical requirements and the administration. If your question isn't here, write to us and we will reply quickly.

How the evening runs

How does an evening unfold?

Our crew arrives several hours early to set up sound, lighting and screens. The evening opens with a proper live concert. Then the audience joins in from their phones: they sing, play, vote or request songs, depending on the format you choose.

How long does the show last?

One continuous set with no interval, which we fit around the schedule of your event: meal, speeches, awards. We adapt the timing to your programme, not the other way round.

How many musicians are on stage?

Between two and five, depending on the format and budget. The line-up is shown on each show page and agreed with you in our proposal.

Do you need to be able to sing to take part?

No, and that's the whole point. Our musicians are on stage to accompany, guide and put everyone at ease. Nerves disappear within seconds, and most participants ask to go again.

Does the audience need to install an app?

No. Everything runs in the phone's browser, with no installation and no account to create: just scan and play. Our crew brings its own network, so the venue's connection isn't needed.

Can children take part?

Yes, when accompanied by an adult. For safety reasons, they never go on stage alone.

Can people play in teams or on their own?

Both. In our quiz and contest formats, team mode is the best way to bring people together at a seminar or staff event; playing solo still works well for a passing crowd.

Do your shows work with an international audience?

Yes. Our bands' repertoire covers nine languages, from the 1950s to today, and the evening can also be hosted in English or Spanish.

Can we add songs to the repertoire?

Yes. A few additions are included free of charge to suit your audience or your company; beyond that, the preparation work by our musicians is costed in the proposal.

Can we combine several formats?

Yes. All five of our bands share the same technology and the same pool of musicians, so a quiz over aperitifs followed by a live karaoke after dinner runs as a single, seamless evening.

How do I choose the right show?

Guiding you is what we do. Depending on your audience, your venue and the moment in the evening, we'll recommend whichever of our five bands will work best, and we'll tell you frankly if another format would suit you better.

On site and technical

What do we need to provide on site?

A stage area, a power supply and, for outdoor events, a fallback option in case of rain. Our crew brings everything else.

Do you bring the PA system and lighting?

Yes, our bands are fully self-sufficient: sound, lighting, screens, control desk and network. If your venue is already equipped, our technicians will adapt to it.

How much space do you need?

A minimum of six metres by four, or ten by six for the full line-up with screens.

How long does set-up take?

Between an hour and a half and three hours, depending on the scale of the set-up, plus the get-out at the end of the evening. We agree these time slots with the venue in advance.

Do you perform outdoors?

Yes, weather permitting. An indoor room or covered shelter as a fallback is essential: our bands' equipment can't be used in the rain.

Is the volume loud?

As loud as you want it, and never deafening by default. Sound limiter, neighbours, local authority restrictions: tell us your constraints and our musicians will work around them.

Do we need an internet connection in the venue?

No. The system runs on our own local network, even in a marquee or a venue with no mobile signal.

Who manages the evening on site?

A stage manager from our team always travels with the band: they set up, run the technical side during the show and pack everything away afterwards. You have a single point of contact on site, and the musicians can stay focused on the stage.

Admin and budget

What does your proposal include?

Our artists' salaries and social charges, transport, equipment, set-up and breakdown, the live performance and the background music between sets. We also take care of all the administration: booking, assignment contract and employment contracts.

Do you work with invoices or with GUSO?

Both. We can issue an invoice, or handle a GUSO declaration for occasional employers such as town halls and associations. We discuss this from our very first conversation, before anything is signed.

What guarantees do you offer?

A fully costed proposal that includes all charges, followed by a contract signed in duplicate. There are no hidden costs to discover afterwards.

What happens if a musician is unable to perform?

Your date is safe. We rely on a permanent team and a network of musicians who are well versed in the same repertoire, so a replacement is handled in-house, without affecting your evening and at no extra cost to you.

How much does an evening cost?

Every proposal is priced to order, based on the format, the number of musicians, the size of the audience and the distance. Tell us your budget and we will be honest about what is possible.

Who declares the SACEM fees?

The organiser does. Copyright fees are not social charges, so they are not part of the assignment agreement: they must be declared to the local SACEM office. Private events such as weddings, birthdays and family gatherings are exempt.

Where do you perform?

We are based in Occitanie and our bands perform throughout France, as well as in Belgium, Switzerland, Monaco, Italy and Spain. Travel, meal and accommodation costs are included in the proposal.

How far in advance should we book?

As soon as you know your date. Weekends from May to September and dates in December go first. We can hold a seven-day option on request, and the date becomes firm once the contract is signed.

Can't find your question?

Tell us your date and venue, and we will reply with a clear proposal and the band best suited to your event.
